A weekend in Cape Town

We decided that the Hermanus getaway wasn't enough, so why not go to Cape Town?

Before we left, we went down to "our" beach here in Gansbaai. It belongs to the Grootbos Nature Reserve, and it is almost always deserted.

Then some of us hopped into the car and drove to Hout Bay. Mark was leading a project there to encourage adults to start new initiatives that could help their community, so that people help themselves and do not have to rely on external help. The area is beautiful:

We helped out there for a while, listening to their ideas and telling them what they could develop them. One week later they were going to present their project to the mayor, and one would be chosen and supported.

Just a little bit exhausted, we hopped into the car again and drove in direction of Cape Town. Mark wanted to show us a beach, which we were all eager to see.

What can I say, the beach was breathtaking. The sand was perfectly white, the sky was blue as can be, the clouds were like popcorn in the sky, the sun was shining and reflecting on the water, the whales were swimming around on the horizon and you could see the mountains if you managed to get your gaze away from the ocean.

Just have a looksy:

Playing lifeguards...

After the sand came a rocky part, and we decided to go on an adventure and go all the way to the end (where the seriously big rocks were).

Made our way up there and took it all in for a while.

On our way back we met a husky, who would have thought?

A little drive further, we had a view on Table Mountain and Lion's Head. On the right is Table Mountain, and you can see the "Twelve Apostles"(supposedly the side looks like twelve heads). See it?

The sunset wasn't bad either...

We arrived in Cape Town, checked into Ashantis (one of the best backpackers in town!!), and headed to Long Street, where all the clubs are.

The Netherlands were playing in the World Cup, and we have two Dutchies here who were very supportive... So the night started very well when Netherlands won! And when I had these nachos and cranberry margarita(s).

The rest of the night was spent club-hopping, drinks and clubs are quite cheap here, so the night was long...

... and the following morning was spent in bed. We went to Waterfront again and spent the day there. In the evening, we went to Sinns Bar on Long Street. I was told they have the best burger ever. So I needed to try that and make my own opinion.

This is it. Perfection. The meat is so tender and the bun perfectly toasted and the sauces mixed so well. Go have it. Please?

Dessert was a little less impressive... Ok but not amazing.

Then, we went to the Irish pub and there was a live band, which I enjoyed a lot (and some girls there a tiny bit too much...)

On Sunday morning we were craving a nice breakfast and headed to Waterfront (again!). Vovo telo. We had been here the previous morning and I had dry carrot cake and bad coffee. I was not so excited to go back, but the others really wanted to, so I gave in.

Don't get me wrong, the café is beautiful and cute, and the sun was drowning the terrace.

Passionfruit smoothie.

White chocolate latte (very sweet but nice).

The ultimate. I was about to have the usual granola, but then I decided to give vovo telo another chance. I do not regret that decision. This is coconut toast (don't ask me, but it was crumbly and sweet) topped with pancake-batter-covered apple slices topped with honey and honey mascarpone, with cinnamon and raspberries. So so good.

Pancakes.

Eggs and ham.

The view.

We went to see the seals. They were... well, I must admit, laying around in the sun and smelling bad.

Had one last drink here...

... then went to the food market for one last springbok filet...

... and I tried another smoothie this time. But Mango Passion is still my fave.

I'll be back there soon. Can't wait.
