There are three Café May's in Hamburg. We decided to meet at the one in St. Pauli, which gives me the opportunity to show you guys the Kiez (aka. Reeperbahn) on this freezing winter day.
Here are my two breakfast dates: Max/Rak and Ansi. Two afros in one picture, say whaaat. They are quite proud of their hair!
Don't be fooled by their lack of warm clothes, I swear it was freezing. -5°C or something. Look at the ice on the pavement. We even had to buy Rak a warm winter jacket later on!
We hurried in hoping to get warm quickly. We hesitated a bit where to sit (the old couches looked so cozy but the tables were more practical). Café May is actually famous for the patchwork of different second-hand couches and furniture, which gives it a nice vintage look.
You can buy a single slice of pie or cake, a croissant or the famous hamburger Franzbrötchen, but they have a breakfast buffet for those who are really hungry. Needless to say, we hit the buffet.
We had: Franzbrötchen (yeast dough with cinnamon, sugar and butter, kinda like a cinnamon roll but 100 times better), plum crumble, fruit, croissant with nutella, bread with everything, cornflakes, yogurt with raspberries...
This is only the first round. I lost track after that. (This sounds worse than it really was, though...)
A little slice of apple pie to top it off.
We fell into an early stage of food coma. I think we sat there for a few hours trying to brace ourselves for the cold, until we finally managed to lift our heavy tummies. All we wanted now was a nice little nap. Tough life, isn't it?
