A little goodbye (for now) dinner

So I'm off to South Africa soon... and the girls came over to have a nice goodbye dinner. Goodbye for now.

Feeling totally inspired by our recent feast at Qrito, I decided to make it burrito night. Of course, this has nothing to do with how simple the preparations were...

I opted for the classics: rice, tomatoes, black beans in chili sauce, rocket, salsa, cheeeeeeez, chicken (and tofu for our little vegetarian Sarah) in tomato sauce.
I also added some of my personal favorites: coriander, garlic sauce (obviously we had nothing planned for later...) and flaxseed tortillas.

As a result, I had this lovely mess in my plate:

Folded it into a burrito and started chomping on it. I'll spare you the pictures...

The girls knew we would have dinner, but they didn't know that I had made a lil' somethin' somethin' for them. Sometimes, I like to have a DIY project. I thought t-shirts would be nice a nice gift for the girls. Actually, they aren't technically called the "girls", we call each other "Miezen". Which explains the t-shirt print. I'll try to post a DIY tutorial soon!

Happy happy girls.
We decided that we would take a picture of ourselves wearing that t-shirt at every special place we will visit from now on. Together or individually. I might just be the one starting the tradition!

I even had another trick up my sleeve. If there is one thing I like as much as presents, it is cake!
Being the Martha Stewart that I am (or imagining I am), I whipped up a couple of mini chocolate cakes with some fresh strawberry compote and, literally, a cherry on top...

... and not to forget the vanilla sauce waterfall.

The Miezen also had a surprise for me. They got me this adorable notebook so that I have somewhere to write all my travel experiences in South Africa down. Again, I'll spare you the photos and captions they already put in it.

Isn't it cute? Now, you'll have to suffer through the next four pictures because I need to show you the background that is printed on the pages.

Stars...

... 'n stripes.

Chevron.

Diamonds.

I can't wait to make it my travel journal and write things down!

And not to forget the beautiful peonies that are now gracing the dining room table! Great last night together... until we saw each other the next day again. What can I say, we just didn't want to believe that I will be gone for the next few months. But I am really looking forward to my little adventure coming up... I'll keep you guys updated. Pinky promise.
